Ellen Ruggia began making botanical drawings in 1995 while working as a research assistant in the herbarium at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.

More recently, Ellen has been working on illustrations of plants native to the Trans-Pecos region of Texas that are desirable for use in landscaping. These illustrations are created using acrylic inks, colored pencils, and gesso on hot press watercolor paper.
